Summers in an Oakdale bungalow community
At the end of June my family and I pack up everything we need and go to my summer house. My summer house is a small bungalow by the water in a community of 200 bungalows. The community is called West Oak Recreation Center (WORC) in Oakdale.
It is a very special place to my family and me. I love to have sleepovers with my cousins, do water sports off my boat, go to Sailors Haven on Fire Island on my boat, go on bike rides, walk dogs, go swimming, have fires and make s’mores, and a lot more fun things. Even though all these activities are special, the one thing I love most is having fun with my big family.
At the end of the summer, on Labor Day, everybody from the community joins in on swimming and running races and a big Labor Day parade. That weekend we say all our goodbyes and go back to school.
I miss my summer house all winter and think about going back in the summer. Fun fact: If you go to my summer house in the winter, the Great South Bay freezes over and there is snow all over the place, so it looks like a winter wonderland.
