‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show’ review: Puppets bring stories to life
We went to see the last premiere of “The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show” at 47th Street Theatre in Manhattan. The show was about four stories, all written by Eric Carle. The first story was “The Artist Who Painted the Blue Horse.” The second was “Mr. Seahorse.” The third was “The Very Lonely Firefly.” Finally, the fourth story was “The Very Hungry Caterpillar.”
“The Artist Who Painted the Blue Horse” was about an artist who painted animals that came to life. The animals were identical to the artist’s paintings. The animals in the show were handmade and were puppets. The audience loved the different kinds of animals that came to the stage. The puppets were very colorful and beautifully handled by the actors.
The next story was “Mr. Seahorse.” It was about Mr. and Mrs. Seahorse. Mrs. Seahorse gave Mr. Seahorse her eggs to keep them safe. Mr. Seahorse met different fish who kept their eggs safe as well. This part of the show was also very informative and we came to know about different kinds of sea animals.
“The Very Lonely Firefly” was about a firefly who had no friends. He saw many lights, but they were not other fireflies. But the firefly found what he was looking for all along, a group of fireflies!
The play’s final story was “The Very Hungry Caterpillar.” It was about a little caterpillar who was very hungry. He stuffed his belly from Monday to Saturday. On Saturday night, he had a stomachache. On Sunday, he felt much better after eating a leaf. He made a house called a cocoon and lived there for two weeks. The show was beautifully handled, and in a fun way, kids got to learn about the lifestyle of a caterpillar as well.
The show was very creative and we think it is great for kids ages 10 and younger. The show was very colorful and the music was just a perfect match to the actors and the puppets! There were lots of decorations and puppets. We rate it five smiles for all children. At the end of the show, the actors and many of the puppets made it back on stage for final bows. What are you waiting for? Go and watch the “The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show”! You will have a great time!
