Visiting the Sands Point Preserve
The Sands Point Preserve is located in Sands Point. In spring there are many fun things to do there. There are 216 acres of woods, trails and nature to explore. They have many seasonal things to do. Anybody can come and hike on the six trails using a trail map available at the front gate. There are also lots of picnic tables where you can have lunch with your family or take a walk down to the beach. You can even bring your dog as long as you keep it on a leash.
The preserve also has some activities you can do in the outdoor and indoor classrooms.
INDOOR CLASSROOM
This is a 2,000-square-foot building with two big rooms that face the preserve. There is space for school groups, gatherings and exhibitions. There is a private bathroom in the building and the Indoor Classroom opens to the Outdoor Classroom.
OUTDOOR CLASSROOM
This is a beautiful area that is 10,000 square feet, and it includes these activities:
- Climbing area: kids can run, jump and climb
- Messy area: creative area to build, explore and feel the earth
- Amphitheater: stage with musical instruments for acting out.
- Art area: for drawing, painting and sculpture
- Garden area: six large planters and beds for gardening programs
- Water area: with a drinking fountain and water barrel to show conservation and irrigation.
- Discovery area: with tables for examining outdoor projects
- Open space: sit on a large rock and think about nature or listen to a story
- Dino trail: cross a drawbridge and walk a quarter mile to a fun picnic area
