Weekend family fun on Long Island: Marvel Universe Live!, Big Apple Circus and more
Looking for things to do with the kids this weekend? From Marvel Universe Live! and the Big Apple Circus to turtles, trains and more, there is plenty happening on Long Island. Here are my top five picks for family-friendly activities during the weekend:
Turtle Hatch Day at Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery and Aquarium (1660 Route 25A). Families are welcome to celebrate the hatching of the baby turtles with refreshments and turtle crafts on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Price: $6 adults, $4 for kids ages 3-12, free for ages 3 and younger.
Marvel Universe Live! at Nassau Coliseum Watch your favorite Marvel superheroes including Spider-Man, Iron Man, and Hulk and threatening villains come to life. Features special effects, pyrotechnics, aerial stunts, martial arts, motorcycles and more on Friday, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, at 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Sunday, at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Price: $25-$183.
Riverhead Railroad Festival at Railroad Museum of Long Island (416 Griffing Ave.). Learn about Long Island's railroading past and enjoy its history with vintage cars and recently restored railcars and locomotives on Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.This year, the festival celebrates the LIRR G-16 Park Train that appeared 50 years ago at New York's World Fair. Price: $8, $4 ages 5-12, free younger than 5.
"Big Apple Circus" at John Drew Theater at Guild Hall (158 Main St., East Hampton). A one-ring circus with horses, acrobats and clowns on Sunday, at 5:30 p.m. Price: $50 and $75; $125 includes prime orchestra and VIP reception, 3 p.m., at a private residence.
"Peter Pan The Musical" at Smithtown Center for the Performing Arts (2 E. Main St., Smithtown). Follow a mischievous boy who can fly and spends his never-ending childhood adventuring on the small island of Neverland on Friday, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Sunday, at 3 p.m. Price: $30 adults, $20 children.
