What do you call your grandparents?
Many kids have special names they have given to their grandparents. Many of these names are given to grandparents because of certain characteristics. One example is "Big Mama." This nickname describes that the grandma is tough and stands up for herself.
Sometimes, these names come from someone's culture, like abuelo. Abuelo means grandfather in Spanish. Other times, the name comes from a kid mispronouncing the grandparent's name, like Gigi comes from Gina.
Nicknames make grandparents feel like heroes and make them feel like they are special to the kids. It's a great way to create a family tradition and pass it to the next generation.
Many of these names are cool, and here are just a few I found that kids in my school call their grandparents: Me-maw and Pee-paw, Nanny, Snuggams, G-Man, Poppy and Grams.
