What kids in 2025 probably won't see: landline phones

What items that we use today might be relics by the time we start having grandchildren? 1-800-GOT-JUNK commissioned a survey asking Americans what they predict children in 2025 might never see. The No. 1 answer: landline phones, with 49 percent of respondents naming them as likely victims of progress.
Disks and tapes with music followed by movie discs were the next items mentioned most frequently. More than one in four respondents also predicted paperback books would be obsolete.
“We’re interested to see what would end up in our trucks in 2025,” says Andrew Sutherland, public relations manager at 1-800-GOT-JUNK, based in Vancouver, Canada. 1-800-GOT JUNK has more than 150 franchises in the United States; it was founded in 1989 to provide junk removal services to homeowners and others.
“We see a lot of things that are obsolete come into our trucks. We see trends that have come and gone while doing our job,” Sutherland says. What are they seeing right now? “We see a lot of big TVs; people are getting rid of anything that’s not a flat screen.”
