Barbara Fisher Interiors home décor studio opens in Greenport
For designer Barbara Fisher, discovering handmade treasures while venturing worldwide to destinations like Italy and Morocco became a lifelong passion.
"The best part of traveling is in the discovery," says the globe-trotter. One of her favorite finds is a handmade chunky lapis bracelet she uncovered in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco. "There were a few local artisans selling goods off the side of the road. Nothing else was around except desert and makers selling their creations," she says.
Fisher, of Southold, has owned her design business, Barbara Fisher Interiors, since 2017, and recently opened her first brick-and-mortar venture.
The Greenport shop in a Victorian house is both a design studio and a home décor shop offering an array of houseware like hand-woven wool rugs made in Afghanistan and fashion accessories like handcrafted hats from France.
When it came time to choose the location for her first shop, Fisher knew she "wanted a space that felt warm and inviting, with a ton of sunlight." She and her husband, Gary, discovered the location on their anniversary trip to Greenport. "This gem of a Victorian house checked all the boxes," she adds.
She describes the shop as "a luxury but accessible showroom," with prices ranging from $42 for a bud vase to $8,000 for a handwoven rug.
