Betsey Johnson won't show at New York Fashion Week
New York Fashion Week staple Betsey Johnson won't be putting on a runway show at New York Fashion Week this February, according to an official statement released Monday morning.
“The world of Betsey Johnson continues to thrive,” the statement says. “After a very successful SS13, Betsey will be taking the FW13 season off to focus on her brand expansion, which includes a breadth of new initiatives such as a dress launch, a new fragrance and a reality show.”
After filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in May, Johnson came back strong with a big 70th birthday bash and fashion show during New York Fashion Week in September that showcased looks from her line throughout the years and featured a performance by Cyndi Lauper.
Although her wacky designs will be missed, the wild-haired, glitter-loving designer will still be cartwheeling through the Fashion Week scene.
“Do not worry,” the statement continues, “Betsey may not be strutting her stuff down the runway in the tents this season, but she will be cartwheeling through Lincoln Center at an event for her new reality series, 'The Betsey and Lulu Show.' "
