The annual shopping spree known as Fashion's Night Out is set for Thursday night, the fourth year the extravaganza has invited the public to get in on the Fashion Week action.

In New York City, heavy duty names like Tommy Hilfiger and Michael Kors will make appearances (see the entire schedule at fashionsnightout.com). But Long Island shoppers don't need a red carpet invitation -- or even a train ticket -- to join the fun.

Local stores will pamper patrons with freebies ranging from cocktails and hors d'oeuvres to styling, giveaways and fashion shows during the event, an initiative celebrated at retail destinations all over the world.

"At Walt Whitman, we love hosting events for the night to get people excited about our store and about shopping," says Diane Wallace, marketing director at Saks Fifth Avenue in Huntington Station. "We can't wait to share the new fall fashions -- there are some really beautiful trends happening this season."
