Femmes fatales at BCBGMAXAZRIA
At BCBGMAXAZRIA, spring 2013 was Inspired, said program notes, by femme fatale muses and the high contrast of Helmut Newton’s black and white photography. Here, Max Azria quite literally harnessed his creative talents with a series of aggressive leather — yes — harnesses that topped fluid, feminine silhouettes. The effect of the pretty and the powerful was high impact.
It was all restrained sexy, with loads of leather (did someone whisper dominatrix?) and lace that played beautifully together, especially in a series of below-the-knee frocks. The serene color story included black, white, a touch of pink, some muted patterns and well-worn chambray. Leather twists around waists, slash pockets and even an apron front on one jumper were small but effective details.
The must-have shoe? Perforated ankle-cuff heels with a bit of a menswear vibe set off all the pretty stuff perfectly.
