Fur is stunning at J. Mendel
From the looks of it, designer Gilles Mendel isn’t afraid of global warming. Though the fall collection was smaller than previous lines, it was heavily invested in fur — coats, jackets, vests, muffs, neck warmers, even delicate puffs on shoulders, like epaulettes, on a sparkly mini dress. Hey, Mendel comes from a fifth generation family fur house, and in a bad economy you go with your strengths. There were other options, too, like a series of draped and gathered strapless numbers, and one stunner trumpet gown in iridescent red that burned like a flame. — Joseph V. Amodio
