Harbor Gardens floral boutique opens in Cold Spring Harbor
When visitors enter Harbor Gardens in Cold Spring Harbor, they’re welcomed by aromas of fresh flowers, seasonal candles and perfumes.
The family-owned business opened its doors in September; Laura Duffy, of Huntington, and her daughter, Erin McNamara, of Oyster Bay, run the store. Shoppers will find a curated selection of floral arrangements including grab-and-go bouquets, fresh flower arrangements, small gifts and home decor.
The mother-daughter-duo opened the store after "years of nurturing a passion for flowers," says McNamara. The women come from a family that always appreciated flowers, especially Duffy's father. "My grandfather, an ironworker, dedicated time to his garden and tended to plants for his wife; a watercolor painting of him hangs in our shop," adds McNamara.
Duffy, a florist with 30 years of experience, previously owned Huntington Flower and Gifts, which closed in 2019.
Their passion for all things floral is lifelong. "From a young age, my mother would use her dog-walking money to buy flower stems from the florist, creating arrangements to bring home to her mom," says McNamara.
Customers particularly like arrangements with eccentric flowers, like chocolate sunflowers, football mums and different types of roses. "Evergreens and textured greens are trending this winter," says McNamara. This season, the shop will feature arrangements with winter whites and deep reds, including white roses, amaryllis, poinsettias and hypericum berries.
Harbor Gardens’s luxury gift selection includes candles, soaps, specialty fragrances, books and baby knits. Prices range from $10 to $150, with flower bouquets and arrangements starting at $25.
