An Australia-born interior designer and stylist has opened an antique shop in Bridgehampton, fulfilling a lifelong goal.

Upon seeing the storefront for the first time while visiting the Hamptons before relocating to the area in 2012, Zoe Hoare knew it reminded her of an antique store her mom ran in Australia. That East End storefront is now Hoare and Hoare Antiques, which she opened in January and named with a nod to her mother.

"I moved to the Hamptons after visiting a friend here and loved that I could live close to a great city like Manhattan but also live beside the ocean and farmland," Hoare says. "Growing up in Australia, I lived the same way; beach life and farm life; horses, beach holidays."

At Hoare  and Hoare Antiques,  the designer has curated a blend of both old and new pieces, including home accessories, fashion items and outdoor decor. The store features a plethora of treasures like American folk art and antiques from Italy, France and Sweden.

Hoare explains the enduring appeal for antiques, saying, "With the world rapidly embracing modern technology, I’ve noticed a shift in the opposite direction, towards vintage finds, slow fashion, upcycled furniture and repairing and reviving older pieces."

She adds: "There’s something about the vintage aesthetic that makes people nostalgic, which offers comfort and stability in a time of uncertainty."

Hoare says decorating a present-day home is all about balance, specifically mixing nostalgic pieces with modern elements, allowing for a space that has a timeless, lived-in aesthetic.

Prices start at $10, for mismatched cotton napkins and go up to $5,800 for an 18th-century Harlequin painted cupboard from Italy. Another item on the more affordable side is a $35 Gardenia perfume imported from Australia. Come mid-May, Hoare and Hoare Antiques will move into the storefront behind its current location.
