Jenny Packham, the Brit designer favored by a certain pair of regal sisters (Duchess Kate and her sib, Pippa Middleton), has Vegas on the brain. Now, we often hear about the infamous Rat Pack — Frank, Sammy, Deano and the rest — but less often do we hear about their female counterparts, a group of Hollywood babes known as the “Rat Pack Mascots.”
The group included Shirley MacLaine and Angie Dickinson, and as the program notes deliciously observe: Many women were linked to the Pack, “but few were regarded as equals … They didn’t chase the pack, they ran with it.”
The collection Packham churned out is dripping with crystals, sequins and ‘60s sex appeal. Sequins minis and cool matte column gowns with major slit action slinked down the runway. We’re crazy about the long column gown, bright as orange caviar, with jewel-encrusted cuffs on the three-quarter sleeve. Or that trapeze mini, polka-dotted with crystals, that swings down the runway just so.
Ohhh, yes. Angie would approve. And so would the boys.
