Lacoste: Prints and protection from the rain

A sprightly array of prints made a surprise appearance on the classically purist runway of this luxury sport brand, in homage, program notes said, to Lacoste’s 80th anniversary. Tennis balls, rackets, courts and, natch, crocodiles arranged in “quasi kinetic pattern” turned up on all sorts of duds — from skirts to hooded jackets — and gave a textural illusion.
There were loose polo dresses — one crocodile embossed in white nappa leather laminated onto jersey, a terrific modified peplum jacket (sport shmort — anyone would want to wear this), a super-cute orange romper and a lovely series of hooded tops.
Item du jour? A plastic raincoat with welded, rather than stitched, seams. Outside, the rain was torrential … and, yes, the tents at Lincoln Center were leaking.
