New York rolling out the runways for Fashion Week
London may have hosted the Olympic Games, but from Sept. 6 to 13, all eyes turn to New York City, where fashion becomes the sport of the moment, as hundreds of designers put out their spring 2013 collections at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
The main arena is Lincoln Center, where more than 80 runway shows and presentations will be held at the tents in four separate venues.
The biggest buzz this season? Katie Holmes will reportedly show her luxe, 4-year-old fashion line, Holmes & Yang, at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 12. It's a daring move by the ex-Mrs. Cruise, who will be under much scrutiny from top fashion critics and at the mercy of paparazzi on hand for the celeb turnout anyway. And, of course, everybody wants to know, will she be there to take a bow? And what about mini-fashionista Suri?
Off campus, so to speak, fashion is happening all over town. Victoria Beckham's usually serene show is set for Sunday at the New York Public Library, Oscar de la Renta is using his new 42nd Street headquarters, and Marc Jacobs is sticking with the Lexington Avenue Armory. As usual, Ralph Lauren's show, at Skylight in SoHo, is one of the last and most anticipated of the week.
While there won't be medal ceremonies -- though perhaps some metallics -- there will be parties galore, including one hosted by Michael Kors, who's closing the week with a giant bash.
