At Nicholas K’s early morning show Thursday, models piled it on, wearing layers of cool-girl garb, including trenches, dresses, shorts, cowl tops, harem pants and other trousers with vertical darting creating a sculptural flap.

The clothes read part survivalist —  perfect for the desert — part city chic. Although the palette was hushed —  the best colors were “nude,” “naked” and “bare” —  the drama came from swoopy, ethereal scarves that created a mysterious allure and surely could help fend off a desert sandstorm.

The clothes had movement -- one sweater looped down to the model's knees, creating a clever frame-in-motion around the dress. While jewelry was sparse (and somewhat unnecessary with all that scarfy billow), a huge necklace of stained glass was a serious statement maker.
