Tent star: Shail Upadhya's dotty for Fashion Week
Shail Upadhya is a regular at the tents. Each season, the Nepal native — a retired United Nations staffer with a love of fashion — can be spotted (dotted or otherwise) strolling into runway shows.
And how could you miss him with attention-getting numbers from his wardrobe like this polka dot suit and newsboy cap (he loves a good newsboy cap) inspired by the dot artwork of Damien Hirst, and custom-made for him by a Chinese tailor in Queens.
“I have to schlep out to Flushing,” says Upadhya. “I don’t speak Mandarin, he doesn’t speak English. . . .” But they work it out, he says, smiling.
