Instagram friends open Long Island shop that focuses on women-owned businesses

It’s the power of Instagram — especially true for new friends and business partners Jennifer Murphy and Amanda Sims who met via the social media platform last year and have since opened Wild Flour Studio in Stewart Manor.
Murphy, 34, a floral designer, and Sims, 32, a home baker, who each independently run their own businesses (Murphy, Forget Me Knots, and Sims, Sugar With Style) bring their talents together under one roof in the boutique. The shop also highlights other local women-owned businesses by selling their items and inviting owners to host workshops.
The sophisticated-yet-chic shop sells Murphy’s florals, offering both dry and fresh arrangements for home décor and gifting, but also special events. The store features "flower bars" where customers can DIY their own arrangements or have Murphy put one together. "Dry flowers are super trendy right now," she says of the "forever florals," that, as the name implies, last forever. Customers can put their creations in a vessel or make it a bouquet. A floral cart can also be rented for private functions.
Sims, who’s a certified home baker, makes prepackaged sweet indulgences for Wild Flour, like cupcakes, Pop-Tarts, Rice Krispies pops and mini bundt-cakes. Other things you’ll find at the shop from local women-owned businesses include candles by Alluring Creations MC in Floral Park; pouches by Lily End Stitch in West Islip; rainbow keychains and décor by One Happy Sister in Babylon; and masks, headbands, Tees and cable-knit sweaters from Ooak Street Dye in Floral Park — and afar: aromatherapy products, essential oils, jewelry, stationary and additional clothing by other brands. There’s also a designated wrapping station with wrapping paper made by Wild Rose Shop and Studio in Saint James. Wild Flour can customize tote bags and tumblers through A LY Something in Syosset, too.
On Thursdays, the ladies open up the floor, for a fee, for workshops that thus far have seen — aside from baked goods and floral tutorials — candle making by Light by Liv, breath work by Aligned And Well and charcuterie board making by The Charcuterie Queen. Guests can sign up via Instagram at @wild_flour_studio.
Prices range from $20 to $85 for a dry or fresh arrangement, while baked goods start at $3 a cupcake. Wild Flour Studio is open Tuesdays to Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Workshops start at 7 p.m.; 70 Covert Ave., Stewart Manor; wildflourstudiony.com.
