George Oliphant joins home gurus in ‘Mystery by Design’ charity show

Great interior design can sometimes feel like a bit of a mystery. So leave it to several local decorators to solve one.
On Oct. 18, the Designers + Builders Alliance of Long Island and Stark Home will host a murder mystery dinner, “Mystery by Design,” to raise money for KiDS NEED MORE, a nonprofit that runs a camp for children and young adults with cancer and life-threatening illnesses.
Long Island interior designer Marlaina Teich will be joined by several other designers, including George Oliphant, host of NBC’s “George to the Rescue,” who will serve as cast members acting out a murder mystery, with participation from the audience.
“The story line is that at the Designer of the Year awards, the woman or man winning the award ends up mysteriously dead at the awards ceremony,” says Teich, who helped organize the event. “It’s going to be campy and fun, and hopefully it will be a successful fundraiser for a great organization.”
Proceeds from the event will be used to purchase an RV to create a mobile “camp on wheels” for kids who are not well enough to attend the KiDS NEED MORE camp.
The event will take place at Stark Home’s Long Island showroom, 170 Michael Dr., Syosset.
Tickets are $50 in advance and $75 at the door for Designers + Builders Alliance of Long Island members and $75 in advance and $100 at the door for nonmembers. They can be purchased at dbaofli.org
