Free Trunk or Treat Halloween event returns to Uniondale

Families can spend Halloween afternoon at a free Trunk or Treat event in Uniondale that will feature more than 15 cars giving out candy, a performance by the Uniondale High School cheerleaders and vendors selling candy apples, jewelry, fall décor and more.
This is the second year for the event sponsored by the local Brown Bag Charity. Last year, more than 150 families participated, says Ebony Guerrier, a Uniondale pre-K educator and charity organizer. At a Trunk or Treat, volunteers typically decorate their vehicles’ trunks with a theme and kids in costume trick-or-treat from car to car for candy instead of the traditional door-to-door at neighborhood homes.
Alaina Reid, 38, of Hempstead, a branch manager at a bank, plans to decorate her coupe in a McDonald’s golden arches theme and is hoping a local McDonald’s will donate hash-brown bags for her to put treats in for the kids. She’ll also dress up — but not as Ronald McDonald, she jokes. "I’m don’t think I’m going that far. I may just be an employee," she says.
Kamilah Clahar, 39, of Baldwin, who works in the theater industry, is planning a jack-o'-lantern theme with fairy lights and little plastic pumpkin buckets to hold candy. "It’s going to be a lot of candy. A whole lot of candy," she says. "It’s super fun."
