Commemorating the Israelites’ emancipation from slavery in ancient Egypt, the observance of Passover begins with a seder meal after sundown on April 12 and concludes on the evening of April 20. In celebration, local synagogues, Chabad and Jewish centers observe the holiday with family-focused events.

April 11 and 21: Go to a cooking demonstration

Celebrate Passover at the senior party which includes lunch and entertainment with Louis Del Prete at noon April 2 ($10). Come April 11 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. for "Passover Gourmet," featuring a cooking demonstration and tasting (free). The center will host a post-Passover event featuring a Mimouna celebration, a return to eating Chametz (levain bread), with Mediterranean music and desserts at 1 p.m. April 21 ($18). Passover boutique with gifts to give and for your holiday table 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through April 10.

Celebrate the first night of Passover with a communal, traditional seder dinner at 8 p.m. April 12. The seder includes matzo, wine, bitter herbs, hard-boiled egg and charoset, a dark-colored paste of fruits and nuts.
