Where to rent mountain and road bikes on Long Island

The time is right for biking on Long Island. Even if you don't have your own set of wheels, many bike shops offer rentals and some even let you reserve bikes in advance. Hours vary throughout the season, so be sure to call ahead. Among the local spots to try:
AMAGANSETT BEACH & BICYCLE 624 Montauk Hwy., Amagansett, 631-267-6325, amagansettbeachco.com. Rent for $19 an hour, $29 for half day (4 hours), $39 a day. Road bikes available for $24 an hour, $45 for half day (4 hours) and $60 a day. Locks and helmets included. Kids’ cruisers, hybrids, mountain bikes, tandems and strollers available. Hours 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Thur.-Sat. and Mon.-Tue., 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sun., closed Wed.; through late-Nov.

Kids bikes (12, 16, 20 inch), adult bikes, adult fat tire and adult trike. Helmet and bike locks are included in rentals. Hours: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. May-June and September, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. July-August.

Sand/fat tires, kids’ bikes, tricycles, trailers, beach chairs and wagons are also available. Lock and helmet included in rental. Hours 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. through late October. Bikes and chairs can be returned after store hours. Rentals of bikes and beach chairs are available online.
