Sebonack takes center stage

Move over, Shinnecock Hills and Bethpage Black: Another East End golf course is ready to host a major championship.
More than 150 of the world's top women golfers will challenge one of the Long Island's most talked-about courses when Sebonack Golf Club hosts the 2013 U.S. Women's Open. The course, designed by Jack Nicklaus and Tom Doak, overlooks Great Peconic Bay in Southampton and is a neighbor to Shinnecock Hills. It will be the first time the women's championship is played on Long Island.
"The combination of the natural beauty and challenge of Sebonack, together with the world's greatest female golfers, will make for a lot of excitement in an area rich with a history of championship golf," Sebonack owner Michael Pascucci said.
The tournament will begin with practice rounds on June 24-26. Championship play continues June 27-30. Among those scheduled to compete are 2010 champion Paula Creamer, major champion Stacy Lewis and defending champ Na Yeon Choi of South Korea.
Practice-round general-admission tickets Monday (June 24), Tuesday (June 25) and Wednesday (June 26) are $20 and include parking. Thursday-Sunday single-day general-admission tickets are $40 and include parking. A weekly general admission ticket is $125. Other packages are available. For more information, see uswomensopen.com.
