After 28 years of serving Afghan food in Queens, Kabul Kabab House has branched out to Long Island. The new restaurant has just opened at the corner of Post and Drexel avenues in Westbury.

You would never guess that the address used to be the Westbury Pharmacy. The front of the store is devoted to a vast charcoal grill and commercial electric rice cookers. The dining room beyond is filled with natural light and accented with decorative tile and copper chandeliers.

The menu presents traditional Afghan starters such as sambosa (fried turnovers) and kashk badenjan (mashed eggplant and tomatoes) along with hummus and stuffed grape leaves. Most of the mains are kebabs from the grill: barg (strips of marinated beef), kobideh (minced, seasoned beef), jojeh (marinated, bone-in chicken), lamb tikka and salmon. All of them come with a choice of white, brown or green (herbed) basmati rice.

Most starters are less than $7; all kebabs are less than $20. No beer or wine. Cash only.

Kabul Kabab House is at 247 Post Ave., Westbury; 516-280-4753, kabulkababhouse.com
