Long Island restaurants serving all-day breakfast
Any restaurant can offer morning food in the morning, but how many serve it during the hours you really need it, by which I mean 2 p.m., 6 in the evening, and the wee hours? The following eight establishments don’t pretend for a second that eggs and bacon are merely a sunrise thing. For them, any hour is good to break the fast. After all, it’s always morning somewhere.
Morning Rose Cafe
Morning Rose Cafe (317 Bedford Ave., Bellmore): "Gourmet breakfast all day," reads the website, and the accompanying menu delivers on that promise, offering such specialties as a gnocchi breakfast bowl and roasted red pepper avocado toast, as well as a host of omelets, benedicts, waffles and pancakes. Lunch may also be ordered after 11:30, and includes such favorites as Mexican street corner chowder and a monster grilled cheese sandwich. More info: 516-221-5010, morningrosecafe.com
The Shed
The Shed (54 New St., Huntington): More correctly identified as an all-day brunch place (it opens at 9 on weekends and 10 during the week), the Shed, which also serves lunch and dinner, offers a popular farmer's breakfast of filet mignon tips (are these Big Ag farmers?), endlessly customizable omelets and benedicts, as well as burgers, bowls and salads. Flo's Luncheonette
Flo's Luncheonette (38 W. Main St., Patchogue): The Blue Point Flo's may have been open for more than 90 years, but Flo's Patchogue, which opened in 2017, is the one with the spectacular menu. Seven days a week, beginning at 8 a.m., fans of Belgian waffles and specialty pancakes, as well as creative egg dishes, breakfast burritos and a selection of sandwiches can get their fill. Toast & Co.
Toast & Co. (62 Stewart Ave., Huntington): Yet a third all-day breakfastery in the Huntington firmament, Toast is far more than toast. Its all-day menu includes such unique winners as coconut oatmeal, Swedish pancakes (with Nutella), a chocolate-stuffed cannoli cream waffle, naan benedict, zucchini/chorizo skillet, and Cocoa Crisp-coated French toast, in addition to lots more traditional morning faves. Hatch
Hatch (286 Main St., Huntington): This spot opened last year, and early risers have been steadily flocking to it ever since, drawn by its bright, blue-and-yellow interior, and especially by its bountiful breakfast offerings, which include six kinds of eggs benedict as well as several varieties of pancakes, French toast and egg sandwiches. It's open daily from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. More info: 631-424-0780, hatchbrunch.com
Thomas's Ham and Eggery
Thomas's Ham and Eggery (325 Old Country Rd., Carle Place): This landmark eatery has a full menu of morning, afternoon and evening fare, but it's the breakfasts that have inspired pilgrimages to this Carle Place spot since 1946. Expect lines at the small cash-only establishment, but also terrific (and terrifically large) omelets, fine blueberry pecan pancakes, and, during the lunch service, good Reubens and burgers. More info: 516-333-3060
Glen's Dinette
Glen's Dinette (23 E. Main St., Babylon): This breakfast- and lunch-only establishment has served hearty meals of bacon, eggs and cheese for more than 70 years. Babylonians and their admirers can't seem to get enough of the huevos rancheros, corned beef hash or blue monkey pancakes, although equal praise is heaped on Glen's wraps, salads and soups. The Flour Shoppe Cafe
The Flour Shoppe Cafe (486 Sunrise Hwy., Rockville Centre): Breakfast starts at 7 a.m. seven days a week at this Rockville Centre stalwart and may be eaten as late as 9 at night on weekend evenings.
