Smackdown-winning New York Burger Bar expands to Babylon

It’s been a three-year roller coaster ride for burgermeister Richard Bedrosian, but business is on the rise with a brand-new restaurant, Babylon Burger Bar, which opened on Friday at the corner of Main Street and Deer Park Avenue in Babylon.
Bedrosian is a partner in New York Burger Bar, which opened in Massapequa in May 2015, won Newsday’s Burger Smackdown (for its Juicy Lucy) in December of that year, was shuttered by fire in 2016 and reopened in 2017.
For Babylon Burger Bar, he has partnered with Roy Feicco, a veteran hotelier and consultant. The chef is Adam Russo, formerly of Harbor Mist in Cold Spring Harbor and Artisans Eatery in Islip, which closed last year.
The menu in Babylon, Bedrosian said, is similar to the one in Massapequa. That means a roster of 8-ounce “chef’s burgers” ($14.95 to $16.95) that includes the Juicy Lucy (a patty stuffed with American cheese, topped with caramelized onions, tomato, pickled cucumber and house sauce).
Russo’s South Shore Suffolk-centric creations include the Babylon Shore Bacon on Bacon (with bacon in the patty meat, topped with bacon, bacon jam and cheese), the Brightwaters Kobe (American wagyu beef topped with Swiss, mushrooms and cabernet sauce), the Waters Edge Ahi Tuna (seared tuna topped with ponzu glaze, pepper-cabbage slaw and ginger dressing) and the Paradise Point Turkey (ground turkey topped with smoked Gouda, tomato jam and citrus-dressed greens).
You can build your own burger from either beef (regular, aged prime or American wagyu), turkey, tuna or Beyond (vegan patty). Choose your bun (challah, multigrain, pretzel, gluten-free or lettuce wrap) and then add as many as you want of more than two dozen toppings. A regular 8-ounce cheeseburger on a challah bun is $14.45 and that includes tomato, lettuce and onion, house-cut fries and coleslaw.
There are also sandwiches, salads, wings, Bavarian pretzels, sliders, poutines, crocks (onion soup, chili, mac ’n’ cheese), desserts and shakes from demure classics (vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, black and white, $7) to over-the-top “super-duper milkshakes” ($15) piled high with cookies and whatnot.
