Baked by Melissa opens in Roosevelt Field mall

Baked by Melissa, the New York-based mini-cupcake chain, has opened its first Long Island store in Roosevelt Field mall in Garden City.

The store specializes in colorful, bite-sized cupcakes, each one a little larger than a quarter and none containing more than 50 calories. There are 10 original flavors — mint chocolate chip, peanut butter cup, red velvet and cookie dough among them — and six more (such as chocolate graham and peanut butter fluff) that have been dipped in chocolate. Each month brings its own “mini of the month.” January’s is “cotton candy.”  Regular cupcakes cost $1 apiece, chocolate-dipped are $1.50. (Order three or more and there's a discount.)

Melissa Ben-Ishay opened her first shop in SoHo in 2009 and since then has opened 10 more in Manhattan, one at the Jet Blue Terminal at JFK Airport and one in New Jersey’s Garden State Mall.

Melissa’s cupcakes can also be shipped nationwide. The packaging is ingenious and effective; cupcakes arrive in pristine condition.
