Sopa de pescado at Pine Aire Fish & Deli

What a delectable pot of sopa de pescado (fish soup) a friend and I shared at Pine Aire Fish & Deli in Bay Shore, an El Salvadoran seafood restaurant attached to a fish market and takeout shop. Six years after it first opened, the place continues to shine.

About that soup: It was meal-sized ($15.99), a goldenrod-hued elixir brimming with shrimp, clams and a whole red snapper. Another treat was fried whole porgy ($9.99), crunchy skin overlaying mild white fish. Seviche ($9.50) was mainly shrimp and conch in a good (if watery) citrus and tomato marinade served somewhat inelegantly in a plastic bowl. It was hard, though, to find any fault with the perfectly grilled jumbo shell-on shrimp ($15.99), sweet and subtly smoky.
