Out on the North Fork last week, I stopped by the newly opened Blue Canoe in Greenport, which takes over the waterside spot long occupied by the Chowderpot Pub. This is one of the nicest outdoor perches in Greenport, with views of the Peconic Bay and Shelter Island. But it was so hot and muggy that we just ate indoors.

The Blue Canoe’s ship-shape interior is sleek but casual, with an upended canoe nestled among the ceiling rafters. Service was very accommodating. We got a dozen clean-tasting Montauk Pearl oysters ($33) that were cultivated in the waters off Montauk, a simple but impeccable salad of local greens ($8) in a non-balsamic vinaigrette (thanks, Chef Terry Harwood!), a cone of good French fries ($5) and a huge bowl of cavatappi pasta ($24), which combined pasta, mussels, baby spinach and cream sauce in a tasty, if unwieldy, dish.

Also on the menu: sushi, barbecue, burgers, sandwiches, grilled fish, steak frites and  homemade desserts.

Blue Canoe Oyster Bar and Grill is at 104 3rd St., Greenport, 631-477-6888.
