It's been a busy few months for MIchael Ginor. The chef-owner of Great Neck’s 3½-star Lola starred in a PBS food show, Runaway Chef, he lost the kosher certification at his first restaurant Tel Aviv (he's in the process of tranforming it into a nonkosher pan-Mediteranean spot) and now he's been nominated for a People's Choice award.
Every year, Food & Wine names 10 “Best New Chefs,” chosen by the magazine’s editors. This year, the magazine is also launching a new award, “The People’s Best New Chef.” In each of 10 regional categories, 10 chefs have been nominated; the winners will be determined by popular vote and the voting perod ends on March 1.
In the New York Area, Michael Ginor is one of the 10 nominees. He’s got some stiff competition from, among other chefs, Tien Ho (Má Pêche in Manhattan), Dan Kluger (ABC Kitchen in Manhattan), Rich Torrisi and Mario Carbone (Torrisi Italian Specialties in Manhattan) and Carlo Mirarchi (Roberta’s in Brooklyn).

In other Ginor news, he is also the recipient of Food Arts' January / February 2011 "Silver Spoon Award" for more than 20 years as "food producer, product advocate, chef, author, consultant, public speaker and television journalist." Ginor first came to culinary prominence as the coo-founder of Hudson Valley Foie Gras.
