Chi Dining Lounge, a flashy watering hole just steps from the Westbury LIRR station, is poised to be replaced by an Italian restaurant, Cena 081.
Chi opened in 2006 and received two stars from Newsday the following year for cuisine with Italian, Asian and New American approaches. One standout dish was the fried calamari, whether it was kung pao or arrabiatta.
Chi’s design had a lot of bling, with a terrace bar, roof deck and even a waterfall.
Chef Francesco Perone, a native of Italy’s Campania region, has been running the kitchen for the past few years, but now he is shifting the focus toward the traditions he grew up with.
Cena is Italian for supper (as in Leonardo da Vinci’s famous painting “L’Ultima Cena” or “The Last Supper”) and 081 is the telephone dialing code for Naples, Campania’s capital city.
A renovation is well underway, and Perone expects the new restaurant to open in March.
Cena 081 will be at 103 Post Ave., Westbury, 516-385-3795.
