Ciao Baby scales down the portions
Some big changes have recently gone down at the two Ciao Baby restaurants, known for their mega-sized portions.
First, the Massapequa spot has been entirely remodeled and now has a bigger bar, as well as a brick pizza oven. Commack has a new pizza oven, as well.
But the most significant revision is the size of the servings at both places. No longer are entrees too daunting for a single person to tackle in one sitting. Now, said executive chef/co-owner Frank Cammarata, they've been downsized to feed one, with prices lowered accordingly. But mega-portions geared to family-style dining are also available. For clarity, the menu specifies whether a dish is “for you” (single-sized) or “for the table” (family-style). Also new is a “skinny Ciao” section with lower-fat/carb/calorie dishes.
On the revised menu are a 12-inch Margherita pizza ($11); brick oven-roasted wings ($10 "for you"; $18 "for the table"), a single serving of mini pork osso buco ($18) as well as an individual-sized portion of Grandma's eggplant ($18). “Skinny Ciao” options, meant to feed one, include grilled chicken Milanese ($18), blackened tuna steak ($24) and spaghetti squash with roasted peppers, kale and black olives ($18). You can also get a classic burger ($10) at dinner.
Ciao Baby is at 204 E. Jericho Tpke., Commack, 631-543-1400 and 50-74 Sunrise Hwy., Massapequa Park, 516-799-5200.
