Mekan Gyro & Grill in Medford has closed.

It was food, not ambience, that garnered the little Turkish counter-serve cafe a two and half star rating in 2013. The place was included in last year’s Top 10 roundup and featured as one of Newsday's Top 100 Restaurants this summer as well.

Credit such dishes as chef Sebastian Kurun’s stellar house-made gyro and knockout pide, a flaky boat-shaped pie filled with a mix of cheese, Turkish sausage and vegetables, with a fried egg on top. Kurun’s kebabs were uniformly juicy and savory. His desserts also excelled.

Attempts to reach Kurun were not successful.
