While it’s surely possible to get a healthful breakfast or lunch at the new Crazy Beans in Stony Brook, the emphasis here is on comfort and indulgence. Such was my observation on a recent midmorning visit to the attractive new offshoot of a Miller Place eatery.

I ordered chicken and waffles. It was Cheesy Biscuits with eggs and sausage gravy for my companion. His dish was spot-on, the Cheddar biscuits cheesy and flaky, the gravy studded with little chunks of sausage. My chicken — a whole boneless breast, panko-breaded and fried — was flavorful, if a bit dry. And the waffle underneath needed to be a bit crisper.

Overall, though, it turned out to be a promising first visit to this whimsical spot where there’s table service, a retro vibe and bright crimson color scheme. Check out the offbeat salt and pepper shakers, a different set at every table. (We seasoned our food with a rather cheeky Santa.) And the restroom, which, instead of a mirror, sports a flat screen with an ongoing aquarium scene, complete with swimming fish and bubbling sound effects.

The restaurant has a cash only policy. Hours are Monday to Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Crazy Beans is in Stony Brook Village,  97A Main St., Stony Brook, 631-675-6964
