Croxley's Ale House & Biergarten, Long Island's new suds star, toasts Oktoberfest with plenty of seasonal brews and the food that goes with them.

This Croxley's, at the Smithtown address vacated by Arthur Avenue, sends out wursts on rye and sauerbraten with 'kraut, smoked pork chops and pretzels, Wiener schnitzel and German meatball sliders, all bracing, very satisfying stuff.

And there are 80 ales and lagers on draft. Two essentials this month: Hacker-Pschorr and Warsteiner Oktoberfest brews. The Hacker-Pschorr is refreshingly fruity, with a trace of spice; the Warsteiner, malty and nutty. Both first-class. They're served in liters and half-liters. A half-liter is $7.

There's no classic, outdoor beer garden yet. But the brews do put you in the right mood for one.

Croxley's in Smithtown also offers some of the staples from its Franklin Square, Rockville Centre and Farmingdale establishments, among them the meaty chicken wings downed in bulk during football games; and the Irish nachos, which add bacon, scallions and, in an international gesture, melted mozzarella.

Burgers, fish-and-chips, chicken potpie and mussel pots also are available. Prices for main courses peak at $15.95; wursts are $5.95 each and mussel pots $12.95. There's also a menu for children 13-and-younger, all dishes less than $7.
