Dominican Restaurant 4, Farmingdale: Good soup

Yesterday's lunch-in-a-bowl at Dominican Restaurant 4 in Farmingdale was proof positive that you don’t have to be chilly — or have a cold — to appreciate really good chicken soup.
This one ($3 small, $6 large) was a deep gold in color, rife with pieces of boneless dark-meat chicken, vegetables, noodles, plus a bone-in drumstick. At first, I employed knife and fork but, wanting to get every last bit, ended up picking up the meat-laden bone with my hands. Paper napkins were invented for a reason.
Had I been hungrier, I could have opted for the fixed-price lunch of $7.59, which includes yellow or white rice, two sides (like steamed vegetables and yucca) as well as one of many meat choices (roasted pork, beef stew, oxtail, chicken stew and more) from the steam table behind the counter. Alternately, one could get, from the kitchen, such dishes as fried pork chop or breaded shrimp.
The place offers a full dinner menu and service at night.
Dominican Restaurant 4 opens at 8 a.m. for breakfast and serves lunch from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; dinner runs 4 to 11 p.m. The restaurant is at 305 Main St., Farmingdale, 516-586-6005.
