It's been years since I last ate at a branch of Green Cactus Mexican Grill, a Long Island-based chain that started in Stony Brook over a decade ago. At the West Babylon branch, I order both the fish and the shrimp tacos.
Now, it’s always good to come across a decent soft corn fish taco — especially within short driving distance of Newsday headquarters. This one ($2.79), which I order with its creamy dressing on the side, turns out to be simple and quite good. A shrimp taco ($2.69), despite its mild yet perky salsa, harbors chargrilled shrimp with virtually no flavor. Rescue takes the form of a bright pico de gallo from the fresh salsa bar, which also goes well with the gratis nacho chips.
