There are three South Shore towns with ferry service to Fire Island, but Bay Shore, Sayville and Patchogue are hardly standing still. Here are a trio of new places to eat near the respective docks. Each will serve you great meals pre- or post-cruise, or — for those who prefer their repasts on the sand — happily pack them to go.

The Pizzeria (11 Maple Ave., Bay Shore): The fourth installment of this popular local chain may be tucked into the first floor of an apartment building, but it’s worth a stop anyway.  As the name implies, there’s a bevy of whole pie and by-the-slice offerings, but this sleek corner spot just down the street from Bay Shore’s ferries is there for you from morning till night. Coffee and pastries will take the edge off even the earliest morning trip, while an attractive full bar awaits landlubbers and passengers from evening boats. Colosso di Rodi Greek Bistro (58 S. Ocean Dr., Patchogue): Open since May and just a half-mile from the Patchogue ferry terminal, this attractive new establishment boasts some seriously good eats. Phyllo dough spiced with red pepper flakes, wrapped around feta and drizzled with honey makes for an irresistible starter, and while meals of the souvlaki and gyro variety are certainly fine, don’t overlook finer fare. The pastitsio, in particular — bucatini noodles and seasoned beef swimming in béchamel sauce — is excellent. More info: 631-714-4315, colossodirodi.com

Parkville Plaza Deli & Caterers (154 Lakeland Ave., Sayville): For decades, it was the place to go for day trippers seeking provisions before heading to Cherry Grove and the Pines, until a storm and fire in 2019 forced its closure. In April, the Sayville super-deli reopened at last, its bright, acres-long counter area offering all-day breakfast sandwiches, salads, a burger bar, heros, quesadillas, panini, and more, all of it prepared quickly and efficiently by a large staff.
