Beat bashes: Aug. 2-4
If intense beats are what you crave, there are some choice events to come before the week is done. Here are three parties that should provide proper dance motivation:
Superchumbo at Aura Light & Sound Suite: 1900 Hempstead Tpke., East Meadow, 516-794-3091, auranightclubli.com
Tom Stephan — aka “Superchumbo” — may hail from a generally club-free, rural setting (born in upstate New York, near Buffalo), but that hasn't prevented him from transforming into a world-famous DJ/ producer, regularly performing his brand of powerful, tribal-infected house around the planet. Before heading off to gigs in Montreal, London and Italy, he’ll be at Aura on Thursday, Aug. 2, working under the venue's singular light display and utilizing its top-level sound system. Party starts after 10 p.m.; cover is yet-to-be-announced, dress to impress. (For VIP table reservations, call Richie P at 516-204-5633.)
“Groove” at D19 Sports Lounge & Eatery: 519 Hawkins Ave., Lake Ronkonkoma, 631-981-1676, dnineteen.com
Back for another multi-selector EDM session, this bash returns to the funky D19 on Friday, Aug. 3, offering a taste of several different dance subgenres in one night. DJs scheduled include Frank Clementi and Kid Ghost working with tribal tech-house, Mike Martian delivering hard acid trance, DJ Dome spinning hip-hop plus Mike Wall and Subrox cutting a set of deep house breaks. Event kicks off at 10 p.m.; no cover.
Chus & Ceballos at Neptune Beach Club: 70 Dune Rd., East Quogue, 631-653-8737, neptunebeachclub.net
During the summer season, this DJ duo from Spain frequently work outdoor parties in New York City, in addition to their ever-active global efforts. Extremely successful, their sound is typified by loud, tribal and anthem-like beats, so for those who employ the “fist-pump” among their arsenal of dance moves — this should be big. Doors open at noon; tickets are available in advance for $20 online at clubtickets.com.
