Sweet tooth aside, it's probably more your Instagram account that loves cupcakes. Or any other form of social media that you use to post these trendy treats and send along to your followers.

Bakeries across Long Island are stepping up to the plate, creating new and more adventurous cupcakes to reflect the times.

Take, for instance, Baked by the Ocean in Long Beach. Step inside the white subway-tiled corner shop and get ready to snap away. A mural of a bespectacled mermaid overlooks ombré counters, and shelves are lined with Instagram-friendly decor. A neon sign greets customers with the cheeky phrase “Hey sugar.”

In addition to brownies and lemon bars printed with designer logos from Chanel to Gucci, the shop turns out a selection of photo-ready cupcakes, such as its signature funfetti topped with pink vanilla buttercream. “They’re whimsical and fun,” says the shop’s down-to-earth owner, Catherine Schimenti, “I don’t think anyone’s mad about having a cupcake.”

Peter Cuccia, who, with his family, runs Smithtown’s Alpine Pastry Shoppe, also says his menu is influenced by what’s trending. The shop offers more than 20 specialty cupcakes including Mallomars and Nutella. “We go online, check Pinterest. We check out Instagram, “ he said. “We go to social media for inspiration.”

Whether you’re looking to get likes on the ‘gram, or just looking to satisfy your sweet tooth, these Long Island bakeries fit the bill. Here’s where to find some great gourmet cupcakes:
