During the days when grunge ruled rock radio and MTV, Live was among the genre’s most successful acts.

First gaining attention on the alternative music scene with songs like "Pain Lies on the Riverside" and "Operation Spirit” in the early 1990s, by the end of the decade the Pennsylvania-based group ended up selling millions of albums -- with later tracks like "Lightning Crashes," "I Alone," “Lakini's Juice” and “Rattlesnake” moving Live into the world of mainstream popularity.

The band’s lead singer through those years was Ed Kowalczyk, who also served as the main songwriter. Since 2009, he has since split from Live to focus on a solo career – and although Kowalczyk is now specializing in acoustic sets, his pained-yet-melodic voice makes any recent, unplugged renditions of his older music instantly recognizable – and whether a fan of Ed’s classic tunes or his new stuff, there’s an opportunity coming this weekend to catch it all “live” (no pun intended) and very up-close.

On Saturday, June 15, Ed Kowalczyk is playing The Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett – a venue that, while receiving incredibly large numbers of guests is still small enough where anyone in attendance will be within footsteps of the stage. Open year-round, during the summer the ‘Talkhouse is a perennial nightlife powerhouse, with famously long lines (and quite often, a place where famous people are known to quietly mix in with the crowd). Appearing with bass player Chris Heerlein, tickets for the Kowalczyk performance are available for $50.

Doors open at 8 p.m.; for more information or purchase, check out Stephen Talkhouse online at stephentalkhouse.com and facebook.com/stephen.talkhouse.
