Artist mentorship creates Molloy College exhibit

The Long Island Black Artist Association proves that mentoring can have a tangible result in the "Artists Choose Artists" exhibition, on view currently at the Molloy College Art Gallery.
For six months, 10 members of the Long Island Black Artist Association met with 10 young community artists weekly to discuss contemporary art -- from techniques and aesthetics to issues of gender and diversity.
The result includes 10 works -- paintings, drawings, prints, collage and string art -- that are on exhibit at the Molloy College Art Gallery through March 25. The exhibition, funded by the New York State Council on the Arts, will be at the Elmont Public Library from April 1 to 30.
Artists include: Wilbur L. Young, Charles L. Winslow, David G. Wilson, Kenneth Smith, Frank Shervington, Rosa Hanna Scott, Leslye William Nicholson, Herschel Manier, Olita J. Jenkins, Bernard James, Rebecca Fowler, Rhonda Fleshman, Clemente Ettrick, Deborah Young-Corbin, Beverly D. Christopher, Dorris Campbell, James Brown, Maxine Townsend-Broderick, Galvin P. Bisserup Jr., and Brent Bailer.
