Renovations coming to Silk in Hauppauge

Coming soon to Silk Ultralounge in Hauppauge: some new looks and a new identity.

The location has had several different names since the space opened as Wall Street over a decade ago -- it has also been known as Viper Bar and Bianco Ultralounge -- but the basic theme has remained the same. DJs have always had opportunities to spin for variously-aged crowds (which as of late have skewed younger), dress codes are always in play, and generally the weekends are busy. In fact, since the change to Silk in 2010 the crowds that have arrived on Thursdays through Saturdays have been tremendous, with long lines to enter and a sidewalk porch that stays filled late into the early morning.

The details on what’s to come are yet to be fully disclosed, but the renovations are scheduled to begin either this week or after the first weekend of March -- so there may be one more round of bashes to come (although the Feb. 23 event that starred Los Angeles-based electro-pop band Hyper Crush was advertised as the Silk “Closeout” party) before a short time out of action -- possibly only a couple of months. But as for the new name and any other changes, the best bet to keep up on developments is to either watch the still-active Silk page on Facebook or check lisilk.com.
