Tuesday nights are notoriously weak when it comes to things to do, but as it has turned out to be the case for the past year, The Cortland in Bay Shore has come up with an event that mixes brain crunching and cheap crunching.

In addition to the pub’s laser focus on locally produced beer and wine, it also comes up with several unique get-togethers (like its monthly "Art On Tap" art show and the weekly “Rock, Paper, Scissors” contest on Thursdays). For the Tuesday night slot, the party is entitled “Tacos & Trivia,” and the name says it all. Starting at 8 p.m., it’s a battle between teams competing to see who has the top knowledge of pop culture and generally-known information. Teams can come down together or form before the event (solo players can also join in), but whatever your strategy, keep in mind players have to keep their cellphones stowed away to prevent any cyber-cheating.

There’s no cover to enter the challenge, and after four rounds of play (each separated by tunes from the quizmaster/ DJ), various prizes will go to the best and second-best scoring team – as well as for the night’s “Most Creative Team Name.” All the while, The Cortland will feature an all-you-can-eat taco bar supplied by Bubba's Burrito Bar in Islip – but remember: the trivia may be free, but getting in on the endless eats will cost $7 a person.
