What does it take to make my day? This week, it was the discovery of La Cocina de Marcia, a month-old Dominican restaurant in Freeport.

The name, which translates as “Marcia’s Kitchen,” refers to owner Marcia Beltre, a warm and effusive hostess. Her restaurant is a tasteful and inviting study in coppery earth tones.

A recent dinner began with a hyper-flavorsome bowl of chicken soup, loaded with bone-in pieces of poultry and bright vegetables. A combination plate of barbecued pork ribs and rotisserie-roasted chicken featured beautifully burnished meat infused with spice. Accompanying red beans and rice were hard to stop eating.

La Cocina de Marcia is at 77 W. Merrick Rd., Freeport, 516-442-2463.
