The new Gino’s Pizzeria of Huntington Village is now serving Neapolitan pie and sausage-pepper heros on Main Street in the former digs of Green Cactus. Unlike many of the Gino’s dotting Long Island, this one is basically a pizzeria without a full-service dining room. Order at the counter and your food will be brought to either your booth or high-top table.
I stopped in recently and found the place hopping. A slice of vodka pizza, with its creamy sauce, turned out to be far too rich for my taste. Much better was a simple corner of the oblong Grandma pie, topped with nothing more complicated than mozzarella, tomato sauce and fresh basil.
The roster of pizzas plain and fancy includes such versions as chicken parm, Margherita, spinach artichoke, potato skin and sweet chili chicken. You can also get a cold antipasto salad, spaghetti with meatballs, linguine with white clam sauce and penne primavera, as well as chicken Marsala, veal Parmesan and shrimp fra diavolo. Prices start at $4.25 for a rice ball and run as high as $29.95 for a chicken bruschetta pizza.
Co-owner Nick Salerno, who is also a partner at La Focaccia in Melville and Pompeii in Rocky Point, said the place is independently owned. It offers free delivery for orders of more than $15 within a five-mile radius.
Gino’s Pizzeria of Huntington Village is at 318 Main St., Huntington, 631-427-4466.
