So good, a recent meal at The Grind Cafe in Wading River, a 2-month-old counter-service spot where most everything is made from scratch. Coffee is roasted in Greenport by Aldo Maoriana, a master.
The place is a family affair co-owned by Carlotta Iacono-Jones, her sister Raffaela Iacono and their mother Maryann Iacono, who studied at New York Institute of Technology’s culinary school in Central Islip.
A ham, cheese and potato omelet ($7.99) special was beautifully made, served with a house-baked English muffin. A stuffed pretzel-roll sandwich (the house specialty) of pastrami, eggs and cheese ($7.99) turned out to be really good, even if the pretzel wasn’t house-made. We ate them with plastic cutlery at one of the tables to the side of the counter.
The only off note: a roasted chicken Cobb salad ($7.99) that harbored black olives, Cheddar and candied walnuts. By no definition a Cobb.
A house-baked lemon poppy muffin ($3) was moist and semi-sweet.
The Grind Café is at 2034 N. Country Rd., Wading River, 631-886-2203
