With four outlets in Manhattan, Ground Central Coffee Co. has made the move to Lynbrook, opening in the Philips Plaza space that, until a few months ago, housed a Starbucks. (Starbucks has set up shop in a new, free-standing building about a half-mile west on Sunrise Highway.)

The décor of the roomy, retro-chic shop embraces its Nassau location with enthusiasm: black and white murals depict local celebrities like Lou Reed, Dee Snider and LL Cool Jay as well as monuments such as the Lynbrook post office, public library and high school. There’s all manner of seating: tufted sofas, high-backed armchairs, high stools and a communal table.

In addition to coffee brewed, poured and pulled, there’s a wide range of tempting baked goods, many of them baked on the premises.

As at Starbucks, there’s free Wi-Fi and an implicit invitation to linger.

Ground Central Coffee is at 659 Sunrise Hwy., Lynbrook, 516-758-3455, ground-central.com.
