Beachtree restaurant, the casual East Islip mainstay, will close on April 10 and be succeeded by a second branch of H2O Seafood & Sushi of Smithtown later this year.
It marks the second time that the Bohlsen family has turned a Beachtree restaurant into an H2O.
Co-owner Michael Bohlsen said, “For an island with some of the best fishing spots on the entire globe, there just aren’t a lot of seafood restaurants.”
The new H2O will offer a menu similar to the Smithtown original, which is on Newsday’s annual list of the top 100 restaurants on Long Island, among the 10 best for seafood. It’s rated two-and-one-half stars.
“We still have a lot of work to do” at the East Islip site, said Bohlsen, whose family acquired it in 1983. The second H2O is expected to be open in time for the 2016 holiday season.
Beachtree has been in business since 1979. The first H2O opened in 2001.
The Bohlsen Restaurant Group’s restaurants also include Tellers: An American Chophouse and Verace: True Italian, both in Islip; Monsoon Steak & Sushi in Babylon, and Prime: An American Kitchen & Bar in Huntington.
BRG also is opening a branch of Prime in Stamford, Connecticut.
Beachtree is at 166 W. Main St. in East Islip, 631-277-4800; H2O, at 215 W. Main St., Smithtown, 631-361-6464.
